Purchase TWICE as much food at your local farmers’ market with Double Bucks!

How it Works

Double Bucks will match your food purchases dollar for dollar at participating farmers’ markets. In other words, for every dollar you spend at a participating farmers’ market, you get an extra dollar to spend.

Who: If you participate in any of these programs, you can get Double Bucks;

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
  • WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP)
  • Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)
  • Durham Housing Authority (DHA) & Public Housing residents

How to get Double Bucks:

  1. Choose a market to visit.
  2. Go to the market information table.
  3. Decide how much you would like to spend on your EBT card OR in cash. (Cash can be used in lieu of EBT funds.)
  4. Get EXTRA MONEY in Double Bucks tokens. Market staff will swipe you card (or collect cash) and give you DOUBLE the amount in tokens!

What can be purchased: Double Bucks tokens can be used for any SNAP-eligible foods, such as fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, bread, as well as plants and seeds to grow food. For more information on SNAP-Eligible foods visit: What Can SNAP Buy? | Food and Nutrition Service

Double Bucks Matters.

Double Bucks transforms the way Durham and Orange Counties provide food to food-insecure residents.  The program allows customers to choose and purchase top quality, culturally appropriate, local food with dignity. Customers say it helps their overall health, their mental health and helps them feel included in the community.

In 2023 we were able to reach 741 triangle area SNAP customers (and additional WIC, seniors, and public housing customers). Thanks to our funders, we were able to give out $148,397 in Double Bucks incentives, and farmers received
nearly $250,000 in food purchases.

All Triangle residents are impacted by a stronger local food system, healthier environment and stronger economy. Double Bucks draws federal dollars from the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program) and Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program into our local economy.

“I think it is a great program helping people in need and having money go to farmers who are essential to local economy.” – Eno River Farmers’ Market DB customer

Is there a limit to how much I can get doubled?

Participating Durham and Wake County Farmers’ Markets currenlty do not have a Double Bucks matching cap. Participating Orange County Farmers’ Markets have a $50 Double Bucks matching cap. Please verify with your local market, as this could change.

Do Double Bucks tokens expire?
At this time, NO, the tokens do not expire. However, it is highly encouraged to use Double Bucks tokens within the current year to support local farmers and vendors.

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT (S-EBT), is a new federal program that helps families by giving them money to buy groceries during the summer when children are not in school.

Starting in summer of 2024, qualifying families will receive $120 per eligible child. SUN Bucks benefits are issued to debit-like cards (EBT cards) that can be used to purchase healthy foods at places like grocery stores and farmers’ markets. Sun Bucks will be matched through our Triangle Double Bucks program at participating markets.
