Double Bucks Matters.
Double Bucks is revolutionizing the way Durham and Orange Counties address food insecurity. The program empowers customers to select and purchase top-quality, culturally appropriate local food with dignity. Participants report improvements in their overall and mental health, and a stronger sense of community inclusion.
In 2024, across eight Triangle farmers’ markets, 786 SNAP customers (along with additional WIC, senior, and public housing participants) benefited from the Double Bucks program. Nearly $277,000 was funneled into the local foods economy through SNAP, Double Bucks incentives, and FMNP vouchers, supporting both individuals and 208 farmers and vendors.
Double Bucks strengthens our local food system by supporting farmers, supports the economy by drawing SNAP and WIC funds and matching them, and supports the environment.

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT (S-EBT), is a new federal program that helps families by giving them money to buy groceries during the summer when children are not in school.
Starting in summer of 2024, qualifying families will receive $120 per eligible child. SUN Bucks benefits are issued to debit-like cards (EBT cards) that can be used to purchase healthy foods at places like grocery stores and farmers’ markets. Sun Bucks will be matched through our Triangle Double Bucks program at participating markets.
